KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia’s success over the past 50 years is due to a strong coalition of parties representing all communities working together within the Barisan Nasional family.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said this coalition was not for the “short haul” but would exist for as long as there is a Malaysia.
“We work together as friends. We make decisions based on consensus. Nobody takes everything and nobody loses anything,” he said at a gathering with the Chinese community at the Kian Kok Secondary School here yesterday.
On the other hand, Abdullah said attempts by the Opposition to form a pact would only result in a coalition of convenience for elections to get votes.
This was also the reason the Opposition was making all sorts of “preposterous” promises.
Adullah said the Barisan Government instead had charted the nation’s future for all Malaysians to collectively achieve.
In this regard, he said the Government had mapped out short, medium and long term plans to chart the country’s development.
Abdullah said the Ninth Malaysia Plan mapped out the country’s development over five years, while Vision 2020 would see the country through for another 12 years.
The longer term plans included the development corridors launched nationwide.
“We are telling you where we are going together as a nation. We are giving you a vision of what Sabah and Malaysia can do,” he said.
