PAPAR: The ongoing roadshows on the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) has raised awareness about what is in store for the people at the district levels.

Hundreds of people thronged the roadshow as many have heard of the corridor but do not know anything about it.

But for those who know, they are optimistic that the corridor will bring some change and business their way.

Small-time entreprenuer Dayang Itam Yusof, aware of what the corridor has to offer, is already taking advantage of its potential.

"It sounds like an interesting plan. Hopefully my business will get to benefit from it somehow," said the 55-year old.
She has a stall selling local confectionery like cookies and kuih. It has grown under the initiatives by the Agriculture Department.

"It's a family business but it was the government that assist us in setting it up.

"We are confident that whatever the government has in store for us will produce good results."

Dayang Itam and her 58-year-old husband Abidin Ismail operate their business from their house in Kampung Laut Papar making belacan, kuih cincin, kuih jala, kuih bahulu and other dry kuih.

Earlier, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman who launched the roadshow here, said the people should vote for Barisan Nasional if they wanted to see the potential of the SDC realised.

"If the people make the wrong decision by picking the wrong candidate, they will get left behind five years before they can undo their mistake."

Similar roadshows have been organised in Pitas, Sandakan, Keningau, Kota Marudu and Kota Belud.
