PM: Nearly all of 2004 promises carried out

KUALA LUMPUR: The Barisan Nasional has carried out nearly all of its promises laid out in the coalition's manifesto in the last general election, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.

“We have been carrying out our development agenda at all times to see that the people have better lives,” he said during a gathering organised by the Barisan Nasional for Pantai Dalam residents last night.

Abdullah, who promised that he would help to fulfil the requests of Lembah Pantai residents in getting various benefits including housing, added that the Barisan-led government has always worked hard to ensure that people enjoy progress.

Abdullah said among the measures that the government had carried out were countering rising global oil prices and consumer items by introducing subsidies, abolishing school examination fees and providing assistance for small-time businesses.

Earlier, Lembah Pantai incumbent Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said she would work hard to see that the Barisan government carry out its programmes for the people in her constituency.

She called on the voters not to trust the Opposition's promises, which she said were unrealistic and unreasonable.
